"Rabbit is Not a Model Student" and Other Stories

I'm back with a (not at all) regularly scheduled Ryanisms post.  Now that I have a smart phone instead of a dumb one, I've been able to capture a few more as they happen!

First up, we have some inspired by all the Olympic watching we did this summer.  We got cable just for this special occasion (and are still paying for it because, yeah, we're not done with all the Olympics we recorded yet...I think we're below 50 hours though!).  Anyway, commercials were kind of a new thing for Ryan since most of our "TV" was stuff on DVD.  Sometimes he wanted to watch every commercial, and sometimes he just wanted to fast forward through them.  It took him a couple times to understand that you can't fast forward through live TV, but once he got that, he would ask us "Is this dead or alive?" (recorded or live) to know whether we could skip commercials or not.

Ryan also really enjoyed identifying the flags of the various countries.  He started cheering for nationalities all over the world using flags that he drew.  He particularly enjoyed cheering for China and Japan, so we had several of each of those, along with an arsenal of other countries, floating around the house.  After drawing flags for Turkey and Hungary, he remarked, "There are lots of funny countries!" Thank goodness for free notepads continuously arriving in the mail...

One morning after a night of crazy storms, I was driving Ryan home from one of his camps and he was particularly intrigued by tornados.  He was asking all kinds of questions about them and eventually decided that a car wasn't a good place to be during a tornado because "the air conditioning would bring the tornado into the car and it would blow off your sunglasses, Mommy!"  That would definitely be the first thing to worry about.

During our car rides, Ryan often now has a buddy in the back seat.  He really enjoys watching Lauren and the things she's up to.  One afternoon in the car, she made quite the racket doing the thing babies do in their diapers.  Ryan's response was "At least she didn't blow up!", which I think we can all agree is a good thing :).

Life can be exhausting, so sometimes they nap together too.

Finally, we arrive at the title of the post.  During his second week of Kindergarten, we were reading Ryan's bedtime story - Oh Bother, Someone Won't Share!.  It's one of those nice little moral carrying stories with Winnie-the-Pooh characters about sharing.  Well, we got to the part where Rabbit was telling all of his friends to go away, and Ryan suddenly exclaimed "Rabbit isn't being a model student!".  We're glad that he learned that lesson!

It's hard to believe that our little man is already in school, and it's a little quiet around the house during the day without him.  In fact, it seems like Lauren already looks forward to picking him up from the bus. I'll try to be back soon with some Lauren stories...it seems only fair :).
