It's hard to believe that this year we hosted our fifth annual beer madness tournament. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out - we love having the chance to sample all kinds of new beer, and more importantly, spend time with you all! Ryan was especially excited to greet all of our guests (even spilling a glass of milk when the doorbell rang for the first time... party foul!). He also enjoyed all the prep work for the 'beer party', including our trip to Wegman's where he had a sudden realization: "Wait a minute, if the game is all beer, how am I going to play??" We quickly reassured him that we had plans (a.k.a. apple juice) for his participation. This has somehow turned into quite the family affair with three little ones enjoying themselves this year.
This year's Brewster of Ceremonies was Cheryl for the first time, so Eric finally got to experience a blind bracket. Once the
beer spills kinks were worked out in the first round, things went smoothly. We entered three beers this year, and two of them were quickly out in the first round (bummer!), but even more fun, we will yet again get to disqualify a beer for next year. Warning for all of you that weren't able to make the event: the voters unanimously voted Short's Brew Nicie Spicie out of the tournament. I guess it just shows that if you're going to do wheat, you should do it right, by which I mean bavarian - further evidenced by the night's winner,
Trader Joe's Bavarian Style Hefeweizen. Yet another victory for the American Microbrew; keep trying imports! Ben is now the current holder of beer madness bragging rights, and proud owner of Beer Madness V shot glasses. If you're interested in the full results, you can find them
here.
Cheers!
