2010 Ryanisms

The whole point of this blog was to provide our family and friends with more regular updates about Ryan. To that end, I am going to start 2011 with a few of the fun or most frequently heard phrases from our favorite 3-year-old in the last year...

lellow - As in, 'I see a lellow duck'. As we were learning yellow, I really emphasized the 'L's to him which he mastered well, but also decided that the beginning of yellow should begin with an 'L' too. At this point, he knows it is wrong, but prefers to keep his 'lello' word..."that's how *I* say lello".

dork - Think of nighttime and 'It's dork outside!' This was a pretty cute mispronunciation, however he recently decided that he would start to say it like everybody else. *sniff*

got for - 'I got for put my milk away!' He was briefly a bit dyslexic with forgot - also a cute one that we've moved on from.

'is the 8 at the beginning or the end?' - Usually spoken with an adorable squint. As we taught him to recognize times on the clock, 8's became important numbers. If the clock has an 8 at the beginning at night, then it's bedtime. If it has an 8 at the beginning in the morning, then he's allowed to get us out of bed.

why - I would be remiss to leave this one out as it is the favorite word of all 2 and 3 year olds. As my parents used to say, if I had a nickel for every time I heard this word, I'd be rich! Despite the fact that we sometimes wish the whys would end, we're glad that he's so curious and interested in learning.

OH - Sort of inline with the why, when Ryan gets an answer that satisfies him or surprises him, we get a big 'OH'.

'I need to go potty' - In it's initial entry to Ryan's vocabulary, this was only heard after bedtime - he learned it was an excellent excuse to leave his bed and see what Mommy and Daddy were up to. I'm happy to say that we've expanded the use of this phrase to many times of the day, and we've pretty much conquered the daytime toilet training. Boy does it feel good to only use diapers at night!
